How profiles are made
Product profiles on ProductIndex are generated using AI (Grok by xAI), which synthesizes publicly available user reviews, product listings, and expert sources from retailers and manufacturer sites. Review themes, comparisons, and sentiment summaries are AI-generated — they represent synthesized patterns across public sources, not direct quotes, statistically sampled data, or editorially verified claims.
What "Reviews referenced" means
Each profile displays a "Reviews referenced" count. This figure reflects the approximate number of public reviews the AI encountered across the cited sources when generating the profile. It is not a count of reviews we have independently verified, sampled, or audited.
What "AI-summarized review themes" means
The "Frequently praised" and "Frequently criticized" bullets represent themes the AI identified as recurring across public review text. These are synthesized patterns — they are not direct quotes, and the frequency language ("frequently") is qualitative, not a statistical measurement.
Specifications and pricing
Specifications and price ranges are sourced from manufacturer and retailer listings at the time the profile was generated. They may not reflect current availability, pricing, or product revisions. Always confirm specs and pricing directly with the retailer before purchasing.
Data sources
Each profile's data sources section lists the retailers and platforms Grok cited when generating that profile (e.g. Amazon, manufacturer sites, specialty retailers). These citations are provided by Grok based on its search results and represent good-faith sourcing, not a guarantee that every claim derives from those sources.
Advertising and sponsored content
ProductIndex does not sell products. The Site may display sponsored content or paid placements from third-party brands, which will always be clearly labeled as "Sponsored" or "Ad." Sponsored content is editorially separate — it does not influence, alter, or appear within any product profile, review summary, or comparison. See our Terms of Use for more detail.
How we verify products are real
A reasonable question is whether AI-generated profiles might invent products or fabricate review sentiment. Several independent checks in our pipeline prevent this:
- Reviews must be publicly discoverable. Profiles are only generated for products with real, retrievable reviews on major retail platforms. A product with no findable reviews cannot be profiled — the pipeline has nothing to synthesize.
- Retailer listings must exist. Specifications and pricing are sourced from active manufacturer and retailer listings. Products without live listings don't pass the discovery stage.
- Pricing is independently refreshed. A separate pipeline periodically re-queries current pricing and sale status for every profiled product via SerpAPI. This independently confirms each product is still being sold and surfaces discontinued or out-of-stock products accurately.
- Review counts are grounded in reality. The "Reviews referenced" figure reflects what the AI actually found — it cannot exceed what publicly exists.
- A second AI pass validates consistency. Claude (Anthropic) reviews each profile for internal consistency before it goes live.
Corrections
If you believe a profile contains inaccurate information, email corrections@productindex.ai with the product page URL, what is incorrect, and a source we can verify against. We review all requests and update profiles that contain verifiable errors.
